A hashtag is a form of metadata tagging. It's used for grouping messages basically. You can search a hashtag and find all messages that have that hashtag in it.

Its like keywords for sites, it relates to the post you just posted and points out the important factors of it, like for example : "I am at the pool #Fun #sunny #water" but most of the people misuse it or likes and follows.

Hash tag is Something that was Started on Twitter Facebook does it now as well its a topic that people can click on and it will tell you who else is talking about it let's say I do #dance anyone who clicks on that can see who else is talking about that

It is a form of metadata tag
It is used in social networking sites like, Twitter, Facebook, Google+, tumblr, etc... It can be tagged by putting "#" before important words which helps in gaining traffic and creating awareness about our product.
