click the icon on the right side of home..i.e showing image of 2 persons....

no there is no way you can see pending friend requests. if you asked for someone to friend you you will see freind request sent.

If you got friend requests, then check that "Friend Request"-button on the left (or right side on the new Facebook design).
If you have sent a request to someone, I don't know. I think you have to go to that profile to see.
Or you'll be notified if that person accepted you.
