My friend in Facebook shows online and in chat but sometimes does not respond to my messages. My friend says that is because although he shows online he actually is not there and claims FB has a delayed malfunction that will show people online for hours after they have logged out. Is that true?

well some times if you have logged in on your self phone but you aren't on it at the time it will come up as online

it's true - sometimes people leave themselves logged in after they walk away from their computer
not everyone has a cellphone

When the person starts typing it will show as seen. If no typing then person might not be there or just ignoring it.
