I randomly get notifications when people post status, photos etc. this hasn't started happening until recently. How do I stop getting notifications when these people post?

If you've listed them as close friends

remove them from your close friends list

go to account settings that you can fine if you press the "gear icon"
then choose notification
choose what notification you want and what you dont want then save and close
