I've had instagram for about 3 days and only really got it so that i could connect with family, I've set it so people can only follow me if i allow them to but people who aren't following anyone common with me are randomly adding me. How do they find me?

If you use hashtags (#example) on your photo, then it appears when they search that hashtag.
They could randomly search up your name, or a part of your name.
Through your followers on instagram.
If you like people's photos.
Comment of people's photos.
If you really don't want them to follow you, just deny them~
