Instagram isn't a social networkin site you can't inbox people or anything u just upload photos and videos and have followers and can follow people with photos you like

Facebook is a Social network where you can share photos, posts, links and tons of other online material.

Instagram (Now Owned By Facebook) is a way of sharing exclusively photos and is usually used through the Instagram App (available on most smartphones)

Basically, Facebook is a full- featured Social Network, while Instagram is a great way to share and see photos your friends are sharing in one place.
