Yes!! me too thought like this several times...., while surfing i found that they did a survey regarding why facebook has lot of fans, in that few reasons are listed below,
1. To share people's personal good experience
2.To share their interest and lifestyle with others
3.To research brand while they are looking for specific brand or services..
and i personally use Facebook for what my friends are, where they are, what they are doing now... etc....
