Like when it notifies with an orange message icon when I have a message in my normal inbox. Does it do the same when I have a message in the others folder?

No it doesn't and that probably is a good thing cause most of them are not relevant

No; you only know there's a message in Other if you open you Message, there's a number in that Other.

No, that's why it makes you pay to send messages to the inbox of a non-friend, if you were notified it would be almost the same as the regular inbox.
