My kid wants a facebook account? - nora - 11-27-2013 09:28 PM

My son who is 16 want facebook accounts to talk to his friends and relatives. They said they would give me the password, friend me and wouldn't post any statuses what so ever. I told him no but I'm hesitant.

As long as you are monitoring it - he should be fine. It sounds like he is quite willing to be open and responsible about it with you. I think you should give him the chance to earn your trust as he is no longer a child.

You do not say what your objections are but in general there is nothing particularly problematical with a Facebook account. Millions of people use it everyday without any problems. If he is open and "friending" family members he deserves your trust.

I'm sorry but, if someone told me, at 16, that I couldn't have a facebook account, I would go off, get married then join the army (both legal at 16). I'm really surprised he hasn't opened one already without telling you!! Anyway, I'm off now to buy shares in cotton-wool manufacturers, as I predict a massive boost in the industry.

I would probably have an issue if he was a lot younger than 16. Would you prefer he gets one behind your back and hide the fact he has one any way? If you read the articles in Yahoo yesterday, most teens are leaving Facebook and going to Instagram and SnapChat or other Social Networks. If he is responsible and matured, it shouldn't be that big of an issue.

hey Nora.. i recommend u 2 let ur son create his own fb account.. der is no harm in dat.. fb has also got a few special guidelines for minors which ll take care of A-rated posts, etc.. am a 16 yr old guy too.. i started social networking when i was 13.. ur son ll get 2 know d gud and a few bad things around.. it ll make him improve his communication skills too..

P.S: after creating an account make sure dat ur son doesn't like any rubbish pages likes jokes, confessions, etc..

cheers..
