Why is instagram deleting so many accounts? - Serena - 12-02-2013 04:23 PM

People keep talking on instagram about how there are accounts being deleted and a lot of them are saying that even some of their friends' accounts have been deleted. Why? Someone said it was because people haven't been using the instagram camera. Is that true? How do I keep my account of being deleted?

From what I hear this has something to do with clearing up the server space by deleting inactive accounts. An inactive account is identified by those who don't use the Instagram camera which can be a problem since many people use other cameras and then upload to Instagram so a tactic many are using is taking a quick picture through the Instagram app to make sure they show up as active in the eyes of Instagram servers.

take a picture using the instagram camera and make sure to use a filter on it. i've seen a lot of accounts deleted already, I'm not risking it!

Mine just got deleted like 20 minutes ago....this is absolutely ridiculous and I am seething mad. I have NEVER posted anything wrong or cussed or spread any hateful messages....and my account is PRIVATE. I did not violate their stupid terms of service and it's really, really frustrating me. Just post a picture with your instagram camera really quick just in case it is the camera reason (which is INSANELY RIDICULOUS if it is)

The same rumor went around last year too. It's unlikely true. Why would instagram purposely want to lose users. Doesn't make sense!

Yea it's true. I was on my account today and it just suddenly went to the sign in page. I thought it was a little weird since it'd never happened before, but when I tried to sign in, it said my account was disabled because I apparently violated instagram's "terms and conditions". So long story short, my account was deleted because I hadn't used instagram's camera and not all my pictures were my own (oops!). So I guess to avoid this happening to you, delete all pics that do not belong to you! And if you take pictures with a nicer camera and transfer them to your phone or whatever, I'd stick my username in the picture somewhere, not in the caption, but in the actual picture. I know how it feels, I lost a lot of followers! Sad

My account for deleted and idk what happened. I was so close to 1K. Idk why. I think it's because of people not using the
instgram camera. But they didn't warn me or anything. I was just online and it logged off and it didn't let me log back on. I'm so pissed.

I've read a lot of those comments too. I'm not 100% sure it's true but that is what everyone is saying. So to be on the safe side you should take a picture with the instagram camera and do "@instagram" in the comments so they'll see. A lot of people have done that and nothing has hapoened to their account. I did it also and nothing.has hapoened to my account.

MINE JUST GOT DELETED IM SO PISSED.

Omg I just heard about this and googled it and found this question. I heard that it was because ppl were'nt using their ig camera but I don't think that makes sense. It might be what the other user said, to clear up space by deleting inactive accounts.
