For example, nicki minaj made an instagram a while ago and her name used to be "allpinkbarbiedreamhouse" but then she changed it to "nickiminaj." I'm pretty sure that name was taken before, so I'm just curious how celebrities get their usernames like that.

Maybe they ask, or Instagram sends the user a request to change their name, which is unlikely. Or maybe she just waited till it wasn't taken. We might never know!
