I see a vertical rectangle on instagram or on the comment sections. I am not hip. People post the shape when they want to comment so what does it mean ? "[]" this is what it looks like

They have typed an emoticon (smiley face or symbol) using an app, You probably don't have the app so it becomes a blank rectangle because your device can't recognise it.
