The moment I put a picture of myself as a profile picture, I get lots of unwanted friend requests and funny messages from strangers.
I feel afraid to let the public see my profile picture, I don't want anyone abusing it. But I see many people putting their pictures for public to see. I wonder if they don't mind strangers accessing their profiles.

Anyone can take your profile picture and use it for things you never dreamed of. Be cautious on that. Save it for friends
