For some reasons, I blocked this friend of mine on fb (just for a couple of days), but when I unblock him, I notice he's not on my friend's list anymore.

yes, blocking someone removes them from your friend list
you would have to send him a new friend request

Blocking someone essentially makes it so that both of you don't exist to each other on Facebook. This is why he's not on your friends list. To add him back, you'd have to first unblock him and then add him as a friend again (send a friend request).
