my friend added me on facebook today and I tried to talk to them. So I opened the chat bar and searched their name, it said friend not found but we are friends because I had added them earlier today. Did they block me on chat or is it a facebook glitch or something?

they may turned off their chat so no one could bother them.

Either you have turned your chat option off or someone has blocked you. Also, if Facebook finds some unnatural activity with your account then blocks some facilities for some time. Check your settings first or wait for some time Facebook will reactivate it.
