sometimes I want everyone to be able to see something on their home page, but others times I don't want it visible on home page but only on my time line. Not sure which to use when. Thanks

When you press share you see a option that says only your " friends" or "friends of your friends" or even every body can see it just go and click on it and put it on "only me" then it won't be on your home page and only you can see it.

Share is When you Share It With your Facebook Friends and its Posted to your Wall Like is Just a Button you Press And it Shows That you Like That Post
