There's a whole load of pics that I want to hide from my timeline on facebook that a family member had uploaded. If I hide it from my timeline will they like get a notification to say I've done so?

No. They won't. But if they decide to view your timeline and notice that the pictures are missing, they'll know. But as a notification, 100% No
