Has anybody ever been asked for social media profiles by an employer? - Edward - 10-14-2012 12:20 AM

I sent my resume to a company, and they emailed me asking for addresses to my social media profiles. Anybody think this is strange? What is this world coming to?

I deleted all my social networking profiles a while ago so employers couldn't use my "friendships," or stuff like the music I listen to against me. And I rarely use my real name for anything on the internet.

You did the right thing by deleting your social networking profiles as more employers are asking for or checking on this type of information to see what type of a person you are. Many people have way too much personal information or photos on their sites which could give a negative impression to a prospective employer.

The best of companies are asking that question. They want to see the 'real' you...are you dancing on the tables? Dressed inappropriately? Too drunk or stoned to stand? They want to know so they don't make a mistake in hiring. Hope this helps.
