Social Media Topics...? - Theophilus - 10-14-2012 01:20 AM

I'm writing a paper for religion and I'm supposed to discuss Social Media, could I get some ideas. I know the obvious things such as anything bad you do or say can be caught online or found somehow. I just need some ideas, I'm at a point where I have nothing left to think of. Please help me Smile
Well I need ideas on how to relate the topic to Catholicism Smile

The Pope has (I don't know if he still does) a Facebook page. Talk about how social media is a new way for religion to be broadcasted or told to people. I had to do a similar research project, I focused mainly on how religious values can be absent on social media, ex: kids from catholic school bullying or teasing other students on Facebook when it goes against their moral code.

Both Pope John Paul II and the current Pope Benedict XVI have said that technology is not sinful; it is what mankind does with it that is or is not sinful. In fact, that technology and media should be embraced as a way to increase the messages and reach of the faith, if done properly. One of the most faithful priests I know of is a former convert to the faith, then became a priest, "Fr. Z" and his blog is here: http://wdtprs.com/blog/ This is an example of a how a very holy, devout and traditional priest can use modern technology to complement the authentic faith. Certainly the Vatican and countless other elements in the Church use social media as well. The point is, social media is an opportunity to do good with the message of the faith.
