I am an Industrial Engineer with an Industrial Engineering degree. I worked as a mechanical engineer in the past and now I am working as a process engineer and EHS manager.

I got contacted by Google, who saw my profile on either careerbuilder or monster.com.They interviewed me for a job as an Industrial Engineer in California. But I live on the other side of the U.S. where my wife works. I didn't want to leave Philadelphia.

My two cousins work with Google. They have Harvard degrees in Political Science. They worked in the white house in D.C. last year until they moved to California to work with Google not too long ago. Google send them on trips overseas where they are trying to work to get Google into some countries that do not have much internet access. They also analyze a lot of data related to Google in other countries.

As an Industrial Engineer, they wanted me to do similar work with analyzing data and improving Google. They also wanted me to help out with manufacturing Google products like tablets.

To increase your chances, get a software engineering degree, gain some experience, and make at least 3 successful apps using Java. You need to show them your innovation. I think that is one reason why they contacted me. I started my own technology and innovation magazine. I had a website and fans. I eventually stopped that business because the time was not worth the money. It took 12 hours+ per day for little pay.
