In the past I have sent some things on facebook messenger which I am not proud of. Nowadays I am far stricter with what I send and always keep that in mind; but I was wondering if a future employer could access my messages to find these things (and thus not employ me)?
Any help would be greatly appreciated

No, the private messages are private, but if you mean Status updates and photos, you should better delete them
