Facebook (Advertisebook): Why is always kids, flash cars and 'exotic holidays'? - LFO - 01-07-2014 03:04 AM

I'm at best (by curiosity and boredom) the occasional lurker on Facebook. I closed my old account over 4 years ago after falling out with one or two followers/friends over the overwhelming news-feeds and general activity where I felt my life was too slow, dull, boring and nothing really exciting happening.

I re-signed to another account about a couple of years ago purely for the sake of looking people up.

Surprise surprise, it still has this tendency to bring out the worst in me of which at it's worst, reduces me to tears and deep into though into seemingly, what a failure I am - in being in my 30s, single, and living at home.

I have been told by people that whatever is illustrated on there doesn't completely reflect upon the lives that are led.

I do wonder though, what's the point of Facebook? Is it just about the RAT RACE and KEEPING UP APPEARANCES?

it really depends on many other factors - not everyone uses facebook for the same reasons

facebook is intended to be used as a tool to stay in touch with friends, some of which may be local, and some of which may have moved away

but a lot of people tend to use it as a way to brag about how awesome their life is, or to complain about how awful their life is - and in either case, they are usually exaggerating it

try not to put too much weight into what you read online - if someone is doing well in life, be happy for them, dont let it depress you... that's just silly

another factor is your age group - if you are under 18, you are probably putting far too much weight into what people say and do online... stop it - when you get older, you will understand better how the world works (i added this for the other people reading along, i already read that you are 30)

think about your passions in life, and join some facebook groups that relate to your passions, that way you can talk to other people with those same passions, and maybe meet some new, interesting people

and keep in mind that being single doesnt make you a failure... i'm single, and i prefer it that way - it makes life SO much easier
