A follower just means someone who is interested in what you post. So the only way to get genuine followers is to post new and original content regularly. Just having someone click the 'follow' link would be totally pointless if they were not interested in you or your content.
You can probably link to new posts with your Facebook account (or any other social networking) which may encourage your friends to follow you.
