im trying to make a facebook like page for something. will it post it to my personal page when I make it since im logged in as that?

Yes when you create a Page it will automatically get displayed in your timeline; but it can get lost when you do more activities on your page (Uploading Pics and all). So create a page and send over an invitation to all your friends this will bring lot of likes to your page.
Other trick that you can follow is create an awesome pic and add your FB Page link to it. Then tag all your friends to this pic; this will bring even your friend's friend towards your page.

if you have not added yourself as page owner, it will not come on your profile.

No, they will not. Only if you send them an invite to like your FB Page.
I have a FB Page, I know this for sure
