Aspects of it yes - remember Bebo and other social media that vanished - but I believe our dependency on the internet is here to stay

I think you need to look up what the word "fad" means. Some things that people might do on the Internet could be fads, but the Internet itself is a powerful tool that is not going away until some newer tool comes along to replace it.
Damian, "our dependency" on the Internet is kind of like our "dependency" on automobiles.
