did people who invent social media sites build the site themselves? - Moto64 - 10-14-2012 07:15 AM

People who invented websites like Twitter, or myspace, or Flickr, social media sites did they all build their sites themselves using computer programming code like Mark Zuckerberg did with Facebook or did they use any pre maid templates at the start and then expand from there or hire someone or something like that

Hello,

Usually the person who comes up with the concept will start coding and may get other people involved to assist. There is always a lot of work involved from a coding perspective not to mention testing and design etc.

Others are people with an idea, but are not software developers so they raise capital to employ developers to build the product.

I know a number of people (developers and non-developers) who have started projects with no capital, but offer the developers and other people a stake in the product after a certain period of time if it is a success. Different people bring different skills to the project. This is generally only where there is an existing relationship with the people involved any maybe they have worked together before or done business.
