Do you think the media has a part in social problems of today? - Jen2U - 10-14-2012 07:49 AM

I mean, if the didn't raise a fuss about some things, would we care as much? Would civilization be better around the world if it was all kept unbroadcasted?

I hate the news media but guess what, the only alternative is signing up for the congressional newsletter (yawn) or the defense department news letters (also yawn).

Only what get mentioned on the media is basically what we know. You need to read the book "1984" by Geoge Orwell.

Also in 1980 the media announced Ronald Reagan was elected by a landslide. The down side was the pools were open in CA and some voters stayed home and lower level Democratic candidates didn't get votes they counted on.

Theres nothing wrong in reporting facts, the problem comes from the media's interpetations or slant on things that I feel are damaging to society,as well as to those who have a public image to protect..

For the most part, the mass media today has fallen out of the practice of reporting news. Many major outlets have had people reach influential positions who have a very large political and social axe to grind. The media have come to see themselves as news makers whose responsibility is to guide events rather than report them. As long as this philosophy exists, they are responsible for a great deal of today's turmoil.

Only if liberal views of sex and gender roles are a societal problem, because that's what all the most popular tv shows portray.."Sex in the City," "Friends",, blah blah blah.
