i get the email but no little notification at the bottom when i sign on to f.b
how can i either fix this
or
contact facebook for helpp?

Mozilla Firefox Browser will show them in the bottom right hand corner:

You can also access your notifications through your Inbox:
http://www.facebook.com/home.php#/notifications.php
