I was just looking through my own facebook, on my sisters account and I noticed that there were certain friendships that were labeled as events. It said, "blank and blank became friends" on this certain date. Just wondering... it seems pretty random to me!

Gent, our first answerer, is not answering your question. Not sure why he or she is therefore replying to your question, although he or she has a habit of doing so with other questions as well, which is giving nonsense answers. Sad story.
To actually answer your question. You becoming friends with someone else on facebook is considered an event for facebook, simple as that. Just check out anyone's timeline and you'll note the dates when they became friends with others, including the year they joined fb, if this is in or after 2010.
