no it doesn't cost you at all just go on settings on Facebook.

I'm on the unlimited texting plan on AT&T, It does not charge me anything extra to text my status to Facebook or when facebook sends me a notification!

No, notification texts are free, just like text status updates. You start running into problems if you don't have unlimited internet/a specific usage amount and you decide to update your status online.
