Are Facebook's legal problems over? - Greg W - 02-19-2014 12:34 PM

I heard a while back that they were in danger. Are they in the clear now?

Which legal problems? They are facing multiple lawsuits simultaneously.

Two men recently sued, claiming they came up with the idea for the social networking suit. This legal problem is now being settled out of court, probably with big pay outs.

NY state sued last year, claiming that under their law it was illegal to put someone's name or picture on advertisements without their permission. That's still ongoing.

New Jersey sued last year also, concerning with the number of registered sex offenders using Facebook. The result of that lawsuit was that Facebook must indicate who is a registered sex offender by putting a note on each one's profile.

Facebook is also in the process of suing other social networking sites for copying their ideas, the most recent of which is a Chinese site.

None of the lawsuits pose a serious threat to Facebook. I think they'll be fine.
