Modeling Agencies denied TYRA BANKS when she was starting out, her mom decide to open one up.

Gisele & Kate Moss started pretty early in their teens.

Model Ashley Smith, 6'1" was discovered @ the SXSW festival in Austin, TX.

Look @ Coco now, (Coco married Ice T), she was 5'2" and 100lbs.

Natalie Portman was discovered by a modeling agent at a pizza parlor, but she'd rather be an actress. She's 5'3" and is now the new face for Dior.

Christy Turlington still models, Google her. Iman is still modeling somewhere.

Many models now own their own company and carries their name brand or not.

I'm not sure how to get in the business. I mean, right now, social media is super great for getting your name out. I hope you know photography or know someone who does because that would be a great help. Get a Tumblr, Facebook, and/or Twitter and post PROFESSIONAL (not skanky Hooter type stereotypical Facebook party photos) that show just how sophisticated, maybe even a little provocative (but NOT skanky, hussy, or whore-ish). And I've seen plenty of girls on Youtube who review clothing and get sent free items from different companies so maybe you might want to try that to get some connections? It may help.
Answer to your other question: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_black_fashion_models
Answer to third question: NO. The second question is absolutely FALSE. There are plenty of black women who are successful models. Sure there are agencies that don't hire Blacks due to their color or whatever because they're racist pieces of crap, but that's not every one of them. I'm sure you're beautiful just like any other model! So do keep trying for your dream career. Don't let people's ideals bully you out of it.
