I've known girls to write on their converse, but I don't think I've ever seen a boy. What do you think?

I think this is more of a social group thing rather than gender. I've seen pictures of guys on tumblr and facebook with graffitti'd converse and it's never looked out of place to me so perhaps it's just where you're living. Where I live you rarely see written-on converse at all. The alternative crowd prefer to graffiti on doc martens, it's just a sub-culture thing.
If you want to do it then go for it, there's no reason not to so long as you like the result and you won't be worried about ruining a good pair of converse in case it goes wrong.
