Why don't the police do anything about cyber bullying/harassment? - I want MOAR - 02-19-2014 12:41 PM

It happened to Scooby on youtube. He had to move house and take down his entire youtube channel, which he had since 2006.

Recently I heard on the news about this case of extreme harassment. This person took photo's of this guy off of his facebook and photoshopped them like people photoshop fakes of celebrities. Like he took his face and put it on the bunch of gay pornographic actors. He sent the photos to all his friends on facebook and mailed them to his parents and workplace. He also impersonated him using fake accounts and people thought he was responsible for saying cruel and offensive things, which lead him receiving a bunch of hatemail and threats from people he's never met. He had to move home and take all his information off the internet. This person was harassed for 1 and half years before he was able to get it to stop.
They got the police involved and it turned this person harassing this him lived in Bogota in Columbia. Law enforcement there were contacted about him but nothing was done.
I can't believe how bad harassment can get. Don't people realise how vulnerable they are on the internet?

On the internet you are only as vulnerable as you allow yourself to be.

The best approach to extortion is to refuse to play. Well, the second best. The first is to not do stupid stuff.

Your reputation is not yours. It is the opinion of someone else. You cannot control or change that.

Your best bet is to make decisions in life independent of the goodwill of others. That is, not to let their opinions of you alter decisions you are to make in your own best interest.

Cyberbullying is phony. You can only be bullied if you participate.

Haha, I think "cyber bullying" in Colombia is the last thing law enforcement has to worry about there.
