Is it appropriate to friend a professor on facebook?
My religion professor has a facebook page and I wanted to know if it was inappropriate to friend her. Our class is somewhat informal and discussion based, and I have talked to her outside of class a couple times.

I'm sure it isn't.

There should be a distinct line between student and teacher. Talk to her outside class, have informal discussions in the class. No good can come of freinding her, don't risk it.

I think so. As long as you don't do anything inappropriate.

I thought that teachers of any kind are not allowed to add students.

Religion teacher in our school adds everyone on Facebook (so, students included). But he made another account where he adds only people he knows very well (and not students).
I remember one of our other teachers once saying how they're not allowed to add students. I finished high school a year ago, and my math teacher added me. I noticed she only added students (among other people) who have finished high school, not her current students. I know some teachers have accounts which they use to keep in touch with their students, to remind them of some things school related, where students can ask them questions about their classes and stuff. I think that's cool as long as they don't post anything private. In your case, I suggest you ask your teacher if you can add her in private, after class or something. |

I wouldn't think this is a very good idea. Sometimes when people are "friends" no matter where ( social media or personally ), and in both your positions as teacher/student, it can eventually cause one or both parties problems from the outside. Remember one thing about facebook, it can have an effect on you for the rest of your life, good or bad, whether you like it or not!
