Will being on YouTube hinder future jobs?
So if I made a video and put it on YouTube and became quite successful, how easy would it be to get a decent job in the future? (I'm a teenager now)

make yourself an online alias. pick a name you like and use that for youtube (and everything else). thats what i did. your friends will know its you but your future employers wont know unless you tell them.

Depends what the video is, doesn't it?
Many employers are now searching Facebook, Twitter and YouTube to try and find out a little about prospective employees. A lot of people think this is an invasion of privacy [myself included] but you have to realise that once you post something on the web it is "out there" forever and if you post stuff that might offend people or admit to taking drugs, it could return to haunt you as an adult. As long as you are not posting anything rude or offensive on Youtube, I don't think it would stop someone offering you a job in the future though. If you are worried why not use an "alias" for your Youtube account and no one will know your real name, most people do that anyway. |

Always use a false name. These days its a tactic to put a name of a person in Google. Pages of text leave a trail for many many years. The higher profile your job, the more likely Facebook/ Youtube or google might be used to find out whether you are a member of lets say Green Peace. There maybe even companies selling information about you, that you unwittingly have signed up for, or wrote a post about. Information is big business these days.
