Is the Australian Liberal Party similar to the American Democrat Party?
When I visit the Australian Liberal Partys page it describes their ideology as "Liberal Conservatism",
And on the current labour parties page it says "Democratic Socialism, Social Democracy". But is the Australian Liberal Party considered conservative in comparison to our own spectrum? Our Labour party is more left wing than the Obama administration. Or is the AU Liberal party more similair to the US Republican Party? Ads |

there is nothing liberal about the American democratic party- they are the republicans of 40 years ago
they are pro-war pro-torture pro-corporation, anti-worker and way too laissez-faire Ads |

The Liberal Party is very conservative, while the Labor party is centre-left (but barely, they are moving further right all the time).
While the Liberal Party is conservative, they are nowhere near the level of idiocy of the Republican Party. |

No, "upside down it's backwards." They're right wingers, of a Bush stripe Republican.

G'day Daniel.
Thank you for your question. No. The Australian Labor Party would be closer to the Democrats. The Liberals are closer to the Republicans on the whole although there are some exceptions. The liberalism in its name refers to classical liberalism with a relatively small state, free markets and individual liberties. Republicans in the US would be the closest equivalent of the Liberal Party in Australia. Regards |

The Liberals are between the Democrats and Republicans in the overall political spectrum while Labor is close to the Democrats.
