If yes than why? There should be privacy for internet users imo.

Sometimes it's for making money purposes. Example: you click on an advertisement and you gain a tracking cookie and if you buy that product, the person with the advertisement gets paid. Sometimes it's through a system where the person with the ad gets paid per clicks on an ad. Many search engines track your history to "assist" as they say in helping you narrow down future searches for what you may be looking for. Generally it's all about making money and data to see what gets searched the most etc. There are ways around all these forms of tracking, but for sure something somewhere will track you.

Well if you believe in the privacy of the internet then your very naive about it.
Everything you do on the internet is recorded somewhere and can be dug up with little difficulty. The biggest contender for that is Google. The biggest spy on the internet closely followed by FB and Twitter. Hardly surprising seeing that they are all interlinked and with every other search engine. Then there is your ISP who holds a record of all your internet activity which they are required by law to keep for at least 5 years! Then every site keeps a record of when you logged in and out and what you did on it! Google is in enough trouble with the Courts over tracking and harvesting personal information and has been fined millions of dollars so far. FB is up for evasion of privacy as well. Privacy and anonymity on the internet? No such thing now! |

Well, for one thing, whatever you do on the internet is recorded on your history. depending what thing you use, you can look at your history or even delete it. I for example, have Rockmelt, and can selectively delete any history I want
