How do I get Myspace-type advertisers for my social networking site? Are affiliate-program ads sufficient?
Hi. Is there a program that I should join to get the sort of ads that Myspace.com gets or what should I do? Right now, I'm affiliated with stores like Macy's and Amazon.com but will I make enough money with those affiliate programs or should I do a pay-per-click type of thing? And which pay-per-click program will make me the most money? (I know nothing is guaranteed but I guess I'm just looking for a good reputable company to go with.) Thanks!

Affiliate ads only pay you when a user does the required action the advertiser wants -- and with Amazon or Macy's that means when someone buys from them through your site. That's called the pay per action model
You also get paid everytime the ad is viewed by a user, which I suspect is the model used by Myspace. This is called CPM or cost per thousand impressions ads. Say for example you are paid $5 per CPM, then if you serve 100,000 impressions, that means 100,000 / 1.000 = 1,000 x $5 = $500 you earn $500 from the campaign There's another ad model called CPC or cost per click wherein you get paid only if the user clicks on the ad. If you say you will get paid 5 cents per click, then 1,000 clicks mean you earn $50 You can sell the ads yourself -- but it is more difficult as you need to know how to sell and manage the ads yourself But there are online ad agencies that you can join that allow you to earn money via advertising. So you get to show ads from big and small companies alike. The catch is that there's revenue sharing Join an advertising network. Advertising networks are organizations that aggregate Web sites that offer advertising space, and sell banner ads (and other advertising options) across them. Traffic requirement is often a minimum of 5,000 monthly impressions, although many do not accept sites hosted by free page services.
