Can a threat on Facebook get you arrested?
my cousin threatened me on facebook saying he's gonna beat the shit out of me but he lives in a completely different state (New Jersey) while I live in (California). I've heard from some people that threats will not usually get someone arrested, but if assault PHYSICALLY occurs then yes an arrest can happen. I don't think I can get him arrested especially when he's in a different state, but what do you think? He only cussed me out and just threatened to beat me up

So if your cousin was making numerous threats and only threats, he may get into trouble for harrasment. Depending on your local and state laws dealing with the terms of charge, they might not be able to do anything unless you are at risk or he/she acts out those threats. Normally they will tell to cut off communication with the person, make a report with law enforcement just so that it is on file in case something does happen and then suggest that you file a restraining order.

It really depends, I remember after Columbine happened someone threatened to blow up the school I was attending about five towns over and they were arrested.

instead of figuring out if you can get him arrested, you can try to have a better relationship with him. its not like he is going to fly over state just to beat you up
