How to appear offline on Facebook?
Does turning off Facebook chat (the gear button) remove the green dot beside my name?

Yes. You can still message people and they can message you but it won't be through chat. They'll just know that you read/sent a message but won't be able to actively chat with you through the chat/IM feature.

If you press the gear button and change to offline mode. people won't see your online or not, if your accessing it on mobile, it is possible to only see the mobile symbol. Yes, it removes the green dot form your name on other peoples chat but people can still communicate with you even if it is off.

Yes, it remove the green dot beside your name. Which means you'll appear offline.
But people still can send you offline messages and you can reply them like ordinary message conversation. The situation is like, You are not using Facebook or have been logged out. Because you'll appear offline as you do, when you don't use Facebook. You can also change the setting to be seen online with only few friends or except only few friends by going into > "Advance setting" [ second option in "Options" the gear button ] > "Turn on chat for only some friends..." in the case you want only few friends to see you online. Type those friends name > "Turn on chat for all friends except..." in the case you want all of your friends see you online but except some. Type those friends name Sometimes these option are really helpful. |
