One of the funniest cultural faux pas made was by Coca Cola in China. The name in translation means : Ker Kow Ker Le. Meaning very thirsty, very happy !
On a serious note, use luxury brands vs mass brand as a guiding point. Say, Prada vs. Target clothing line. Most important is what your target audience is reading/seeking information. Prada - aims at deep pockets and fashionable women and men. Uses advertisements, runways in top women's magazine, editorials. The aim is to wow and inspire. That's why they do use celebrities. Target - Newspapers and catalogs. Targets at people looking for deals vs quality and style. So newspapers, mail-drop catalogs to reach homes. Ironically, Target will have a bigger advertising budget than Prada because the more people you need to reach, the more you have to pay. Even the shop size/rental is tons higher. Ads |
