Raspberry ketones and a missed period..?
Alright so, I was DESPERATE to drop a few pounds (even though I don't need to). I saw an ad for raspberry ketones on Facebook and did A LOT of research on it. They seemed safe enough, so I bought some from Wal-Greens (Purely Inspired Raspberry Ketones +). The instructions said that 1 servings is two pills and to take 2 servings a day which is four pills. So I did...for five days in a row. They made me feel kinda sick-ish when I took them though. Well, I noticed on the bottle that it said to take 1200mg per day and the nutrition facts label said that each pill was 600mg, so clearly taking 4 a day was way more than 1200mg (only taking two a day equals 1200mg, taking 4 a da equals 2400). This confused me, so I stopped taking them. Now my period is about 2-3 days late. Could taking these pills possibly damage my ovarian system? Am I the only one who missed a period after taking Raspberry Ketones?

I don't think taking twice the Raspberry Ketone dose interfered with your menses so much as the shock of caloric restriction if you are dieting too hard.
As a survival mechanism against periods of starvation -- which happens frequently throughout the history of the human race -- females of reproductive age stop menstruating, an acknowledgment of that fact that undernourished women cannot survive and carry a pregnancy at the same time. The body is saying: I am starving...so no babies right now. Female athletes hard in training also stop menstruating for the same reason. See those women running the 800 meters in the Olympics? Not a period among the whole bunch for 3+ months, count on it. Anyway, if you ease up on the caloric restriction and eat a little more --slow and steady wins the race-- I am sure your menses will return, and on schedule. You may keep taking the Raspberry Ketones if you feel they help you -- probably stick w/ the recommended dose Source: I am a pharmacist Ads |
