If the church is not a confessional church, by that I mean; one governed by a statement of faith that conforms to the bible and is faithfully reflected in the creeds of the church, such as the Westminster Standards, London Baptist confession of 1689, or the three forms of unity; The Heidleberg Catechism, Belgic Confession, and the Cannons of Dort. If your church doesn't teach these things, then it's not a New Testament church instead it is what Galatians 1 tells us is a false gospel and best you leave it.

A church where the ministry has appropriated more power and control over the people than they are entitled to, creates a condition where spiritual growth is nearly impossible. There is nothing wrong with quitting and studying on your own.
