Why can't I format text in Mail using the latest version of MSIE 11?
I cannot bold, underline, or italicize text in Mail either using Ctrl+[b or u or i] nor by using the toolbar. Nothing happens at all.

Also, emoticons do not appear when selected using the emoticon button.. Happens at home and work. MSIE is automatically updated.

At work: Windows 7 Pro on Dell Optiplex 390.

MSIE 11, v. 11.0.9600.16518
Update versions 11.0.3 (KB2909921)

Clearing cache does nothing.

The features work using Chrome... but I do not want to use Chrome.
I appreciate the response. I checked and there are no websites in the "Compatibility View" window, and the checkbox for "Display intranet sites in Compatibility View" is not checked. Therefore, I am not sure what else to do in order to assure that it is not a Compatibilty View problem.

Unfortunately, I have found that certain limitations found in Chrome (in particular) and Mozilla make it impractical to use them, so I am hoping to find a solution that will allow me to continue to use MSIE, although I am not necessarily a fan of MS products.

It sounds like you are having this problem because of a feature of Internet Explorer called "Compatibility Mode", Peter. To learn how to turn this off, please read "Internet Explorer Compatibility Mode", available at:

You may also consider switching to a different free Web browser that may provide a better Internet experience for you. I suggest Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox; you can find them at the links below.

Download Chrome:
http://www.google.com/chrome

Download Firefox:
http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/new/

I hope this has helped you, Peter!
