Is the cold weather affecting my cable internet. My ping is suddenly skyrocketing...?
We have the fastest package comcast has to offer, and typically the speeds are fantastic. I like to play online games a lot, and so having the fast internet is nice (particularly war thunder and world of tanks). I live in colorado, and just earlier this week the temps dropped into the negatives. Now, my ping in war thunder goes waaaaaayyyy up into the 5000s. The typical is 50 to 60. Is the cold weather doing this or is something else causing this problem? I am anxious to play this weekend and if there is a fix i would love to know about it.

It is quite possible that the cold weather is keeping everyone inside, where they are using the internet. the heavy use of the internet is causing congestion and slowing things down. that's what shared connections are like.

i doubt it would have such a drastic difference on your line.
try running Pingtest: http://www.pingtest.net/ and test the speed http://www.speedtest.net/ also try googling 'my IP information' and see if your set to your local exchange or on a dynamic IP that has set you on a different exchange that is far. |
