to get annoying ads off my email page and facebook page?

One of my contacts is from Bangladesh, whenever I checked up on his questions or answers, I always got ads displayed afterwards of some Indian Matrimonial sites - that got me wondering, especially since I am a female silver surfer. Then some time ago Yahoo had technical problems and accidentally placed a script in the box on the YA pages instead of the flash ads normally displayed. That's when I found out that adyield-manager and bluelithium is used to place personalized ads - both use cookies to track your browsing habits, so you may get a different ad displayed than somebody sitting right next to you. That prompted me to look for solutions since I don't like to get spied upon, and I found several good solutions...

Click tools in your top bar -> click "Internet Options" -> click "Security" tab -> click on "Restricted Sites" -> click "Sites", type in the following two sites:
http://ads.bluelithium.com/
http://ad.yieldmanager.com/
That should take care of most of those ads.

Other possibilities...

Download and install the latest Firefox browser:
http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all-beta.html

Install "adblock plus":
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/1865

Result: no more annoying ads! And pages are loading much quicker too...:-)

http://www.admuncher.com/ - this adblocker for the IE (and other browsers) gets highly recommended in several forums.

http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/261...ri-adblock - for Safari Mac
http://opindian.com/blog/2009/02/25/adbl...s-and-mac/ - another solution for Safari 4 Win and Mac.

I for one have the Firefox installed and don't see a single ad on the Yahoo pages...:-)
