You haven't seen him/her in three years.... Thus, you are not friends.

No need to over think it.

Others reasons to block and unfriend:
-you post a bunch of cartoons or sayings you think are funny
-you like stupid company pages, filling your friends feed with spam
-you send to many app requests
-political views/ too much drama
-unprofessional stuff that's nsfw
