Why are there more ads than normal on Facebook?

Regular advertisers on Facebook might have found lately that the ad space has become increasingly competitive and the average cost per click on an ad is getting more expensive. You’re not alone in this, as recent figures show that the average CPC on a Facebook ad has risen by over half, at 54% from Q2. This is in line with increasing ad spend on Facebook, which rose by 25% from Q2. While Facebook ads will still work out on average, cheaper than Google Adwords across most industries, this is likely only going to be the case for a limited time, as more and more advertisers turn to Facebook perhaps not for a cheap form of advertising, but a more effective one.

What this increase in spend and CPC shows is that brands will need to get smart about their Facebook advertising strategy. It’s not just a case of allocating say 5% of your marketing spend on there and hoping the ads do well, but they must form part of a considered marketing plan, with a very real reason to advertise on Facebook.
