Without knowing the situation probably, I'll go on what little basis I have (the video) and say that I strongly disagree with his course of action.
Yes, it is understandable that he is disappointed in her for being a brat. I understand it must feel like a kick in the face. Yes, he has the right to punish his daughter. Yes, he probably felt pretty bad *ss emptying his pistol into her laptop. But that doesn't mean what he did was a good solution to the problem. His daughter is fifteen. As a teenager, she'll be prone to violent moodswings. It won't be pleasant to listen to, and you've got every right to tell her to shut up. But as a parent, it's also your responsibility to understand that she's going through a tough time. Every teenager has been angry at their parents, even for the littlest things, and it is normal to have these silly outbreaks. More often than not, they regret it later. I'm not saying he shouldn't have punished her, but shooting her laptop was really just a very childish thing to do. He could have just confiscated it, or sold it even. There's no need to ruin a perfectly good laptop and waste all the money and work he had just put into upgrading it. |
